  • Demonstrates knowledge of test requirements, stability limits, specimen integrity, specimen identification and preparation of specimens for testing and transport. Demonstrates competency in all required computer functions, perform registrations, order tests, specimen log in, transfer of specimens and maintains confidentiality of patient information. Accurately identifies and labels specimens according to procedure. Can identify, investigate and solve problems when appropriate. Demonstrates competency in answering questions regarding specimen requirements/ status/routing, and transfers calls to technical staff or client services when appropriate. Answers telephone using key phrasing in a prompt and courteous manner.

  • Follows Lean Principles and standard work, laboratory procedures and policies. Adheres to First in First Out and supports and dispatches labels in accordance with Lean Principles and prioritizes sensitive specimens when necessary. Gives constructive input to improve processes. Provides input to help develop and follows Job Guidance Sheets.

  • Meet department defined turnaround times by working collaboratively with all parts of the process. Recognizes and participates in process improvement opportunities. Demonstrates continued improvement in registration and ordering accuracy.

  • Participates in all safety, security, and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as participation of departmental meetings, inservices and campus meetings where appropriate. Completes all required laboratory and system competencies, continuing education in a timely manner. Follows all regulatory guidelines including CAP, JCAHO.

  • Communicates positively about CHI Health and with all lab staff, nurses, doctors, patients, & clinic staff. Respectfully acknowledges those not normally in your work area, and those communicating to you. Utilizes WOW and CARE tools. Smiles and has eye contact with those in work environment. Projects a positive image of CHI Health and AH Laboratory Services.

  • Participates in all safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department.

  • Demonstrates work practices consistent with CHI Health and department-specific safety, security and infection control policies.

  • Must have ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.

Shift: Rotating hours- Evenings- 1300-0100. Days 0700-1730. Rotating weekends and holidays.



No experience necessary; interest in biological science is a benefit.


A minimum of a high school degree or equivalent is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities :

Knowledge of Windows-based software preferred. Typing skills. Good organizational skills. Must possess a strong knowledge of applicable laws, guidelines, and professional standards. Excellent communication skills. Must demonstrate personal traits of a high-level commitment, motivation and energy; team orientation; professionalism; trust; personal honesty and integrity. Demonstrate an appreciation of the high value of others as well as an attitude of dignity and respect toward others. Ability to use general clerical equipment, telephones, and computers is required.
