POSITION PURPOSE:

The Financial Analyst I serves CHI Health’s vision and mission by ensuring

an environment of effective decision making, forecasting and sound business

planning, relating to decision support, cost accounting, dashboard reporting,

financial analysis, productivity processing, long-range financial planning,

operating and capital budgeting. Works

closely with all levels of management in order to develop and package services

catered to meet the specific needs of customers. Provides timely delivery of quality financial

products and services to customers.

Effectively executes the processes and systems that deliver financial

services. Keeps management informed of

progress/key steps and assists in the seamless integration of FP&A

processes within the operating goals of the health system and individual

business units. Creates a forward-focused guiding vision and environment of “no

surprises” and exceptional customer service.

Serves as a role model for ethical behavior and promotes an awareness

and understanding of positive ethical and moral principles consistent with the

Mission, Vision and Values of CHI Health.

ENVIRONMENT:

CHI Health is a not-for-profit

umbrella corporation providing governance, administrative management and

direction to all operations of Bergan Mercy Health System (sponsored by

Catholic Health Initiatives) and Immanuel Medical Center (Immanuel Health

Systems). These two health systems have

consolidated operations while maintaining separate religious identities,

financial assets and medical staffs.

Consolidated operations include

five acute-care metropolitan hospitals located in the Omaha-Council Bluffs

metropolitan area; three rural hospitals located in Missouri Valley and

Corning, Iowa and in Schuyler, Nebraska; one long-term care facility located in

Omaha; one ambulatory service facility at Lakeside in Omaha; minority owner of

community hospital in Blair; home care programs serving the region; multiple

metropolitan and rural health care clinics/offices; major programmatic

initiatives in managed care, physical medicine and rehabilitation, behavioral

health, senior services, cardiovascular services, orthopedics, women’s and

children’s services, and oncology; and joint ventures with community partners

in pediatrics and hospice.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The incumbent works

collaboratively with all members of the Accounting and Finance management team

and staff to assist in the achievement of system objectives. The incumbent assists the FP&A management

team, in all areas of decision support, cost accounting, dashboard reporting,

financial analysis, productivity processing, long-range financial planning,

operating and capital budgeting, and related activities in support of the

operational aspects of all strategies, initiatives and operational elements on

a system-wide basis. Provides general

direction, technical assistance and support to all elements of CHI Health in

the implementation and execution for areas of responsibility. Will work with

external auditors and consultants, both in the area of Accounting and Finance,

as well as, other health related professionals.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide financial consultation, products, andservices that ensure timely and accurate delivery to identified customerswithin the consolidated system and the separate operational elements thatconstitute the system as a whole, with emphasis on assigned operationalareas.

  • Provide maintenance to ensure accuracy ofhierarchy / tree structure in all FP&A systems.

  • Support CHI Health’s system-wide strategies andoperational planning activities with the daily operation of the FP&Asystems.

  • Develop and produce routine reports fromFP&A systems.

  • Accurately compile budget, productivityprocessing, and cost accounting data, as applicable, to all levels of systemmanagement and actively pursue resolution of identified issues.

  • Maintain system-wide statistics.Uphold a close working relationship withoperations to ensure standards are kept current and automated.

  • Audit and reconcile budget, cost accounting,productivity, and general ledger and decision support systems to assureaccurate and consistent data, as applicable.

  • Perform other responsibilities and projects, asjustified by the needs of hospital operations, such as ad-hoc reports,feasibility studies, trend analyses, and special projects.

  • Participate in all mandatory safety, securityand infection control programs, as well as those required and provided by thedepartment.

  • Demonstrate work practices consistent with CHI Healthand department-specific safety, security and infection control policies.

  • Must have ability to work effectively andcollaboratively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience

1-3

years’ experience within Finance or Accounting, or related field, preferred.

Education

Bachelor’s

Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or closely related field preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Must

possess a strong knowledge of Financial Management and Accounting Theory and

Practice; with a thorough knowledge of computer operations and PC utilization

preferred, including database software, spreadsheet software, and Windows

operating systems; demonstrate ability to gain a keen understanding of hospital

and other general health care operations. Excellent interpersonal and

communication skills. Notable problem solving and planning skills. Must

demonstrate personal traits of a high-level commitment; motivation and energy;

team orientation; professionalism; trust; personal honesty and integrity; and

demonstrate an appreciation of the high value of others, as well as an attitude

of dignity and respect toward others.

Working Conditions

Normal

office/meeting environments. Routine

periods of sitting, walking and standing are required. Frequent travel between locations throughout

the Omaha-Council Bluffs area with the potential for occasional travel to

locations out of the metropolitan area.
