Responsible for the delivery of excellence in patient care through assessing, formulating nursing diagnoses and establishing goals, planning and implementing intervention and evaluating patient care outcomes. With the staff nurse's professional practice he/she Responsible for participating in and maintaining quality, cost effectiveness and guest relations. Provide patient care in compliance with hospital policies and procedures and the standards of professional nursing practice as defined by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas




  • Medical Center-Bachelor's Degree for all transfers and new hires

  • Community Hospitals-Associate's Degree

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Based on location assignment may also require BLS/ACLS/ and or PALS


  • None required


Validation is required for the skills needed

in the following areas for providing care in the Emergency Department:

  • Abdominal Emergencies (Appendicitis, EctopicPregnancy, PID, Hepatitis, Pancreatitis, Bowel Obstruction, AcuteCholecystitis, GI Bleed);

  • CV Emergencies ( ACS/Angina/AMI, CHF,Cardiogenic Shock, Hypovolemic Shock, Obstructive Shock, Hypertension, DVT,Aortic Aneurysm, Sickle Cell Crisis);

  • Endocrine Emergencies (Diabetes Mellitus,Hyperosmolar Non-Ketotic, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Thyroid Storm);

  • Neurological Emergencies (Ischemic Stroke,Subdural Hematoma, Seizures, Meningitis, Guillian-Barre, Spinal Cord Injury);

  • Renal Emergencies (Acute Renal Insufficiency,Kidney Stones, Hyperkalemia, Pyelonephritis, Urinary Retention);

  • Reproductive Emergencies (Testicular Torsion,Priapism, Vaginal Bleeding, Emergency Delivery);

  • Psychiatric Emergencies (Violent, aggressiveor destructive behavior);

  • Pediatric Emergencies (Apnea, Asthma, Croup,Epiglottitis, Febrile Seizures, Intussusception of the bowel, Tetralogy ofFallot);

  • Arterial puncture; Cardioversion; Chesttubes; C-Spine Immobilization; Cultures (blood, sputum/aspirate, urine, wound,viral/nasal/ invasive lines); Endotracheal Tube; Irrigation (eye, ear);Moderate Sedation (conscious); Pedi patient; Pelvic exams; Nebulizer Treatment;Restraints; Splintng; Suctioning; Stretchers
