POSITION SUMMARY

Telemetry House Officers are responsible for the initial evaluation and manage of patients admitted to their area of coverage by members of the Teaching Medical Service (TMS). In their area of coverage, Telemetry House Officers will also provide cross coverage management to patients admitted by members of TMS. They are not responsible for initial evaluation and management of patients admitted to their area of coverage by physicians who are not members of the TMS but will provide cross coverage management to those patients if there is a TMS member consulting on the case. Telemetry House Officers will provide cross coverage management in their area of coverage to all patients, both teaching and non-teaching, in emergency situations. Telemetry House Officers are responsible for notifying members of the TMS of any significant change in the status of their patients.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Respond to all codes occurring on patients in your areas of coverage.

  2. Responsible for initiating admitting notes and admitting orders on all patients admitted to the Teaching Medical Service (TMS) to those units under your coverage unless otherwise specified by the admitting staff physician.

  3. Responsible for timely evaluation of new medical problems as they occur on any TMS patient within those locations under your coverage.

  4. Responsible for being physically present in the hospital during the entire telemetry shift. During a telemetry shift you will not have concurrent clinical responsibilities.

  5. Responsible to do cross-coverage for non-teaching patients admitted to the Telemetry Service in emergency situations. Emergency situations include but not limited to: chest pain, shortness of breath, hypotension, arrhythmias, and altered mental status.

  6. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Licensure Required:

  • Texas Medical License, DEA, DPS, ACLS

Minimum Experience:

  • 1 Year Medical Residency in Internal Medicine

  • Approval from Program Director for Moonlighting

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Telemetry House Officers should be capable of evaluating and managing patients with problems admitted to Internal Medicine Service. They should be skilled at interpreting and managing typical arrhythmias found in patients admitted to a Telemetry bed. They should be ACLS certified and be capable of initiating emergency care.
