Operates diagnostic equipment and Performs a variety of technical diagnostic imaging procedures. Provides patient orientation, procedure explanation, and pre and post diagnostic care to completion of test. Performs complete diagnostic imaging tests inclusive of positioning patient, calibration of equipment, and documentation of findings, with the direction of the imaging supervisor/manager. Assists patients with basic patient care needs.
Education and Licensure (required and/or preferred)
Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists- ARRT (R); must maintain current
Certified by State of Texas –MRT; must maintain current
Experience (required and/or preferred)
- One (1) or more years of experience is preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Good alpha/numerical dexterity and handwriting skills
Interpersonal skills for communication with patients, visitors, physicians andother hospital personnel
Must have good written and oral communication skills
Performs complete diagnosticimaging tests on patients according to the specific departmental procedureprotocols under the direction of the Medical Director. Obtains and documentspatient history.
Prepares equipment ensuring thatequipment is operational, safe and functioning according to diagnosticstandards. Performs periodic QA and Ensures requisitedocumentation
Problem solves equipment failureand contacts appropriate personnel regarding equipment problems.
Ensures that daily equipment androom maintenance are performed before/during/ after each procedure, and thatspecial precautions and measures are performed to ensure infection controlstandards.
Completes all quality checks andEnsures that equipment logs are maintained
Completes all clinical supplyinventories, ensuring that each diagnostic room is complete with the necessarysupplies required to perform the procedure
Actively Participates withpatient testing, performing urgent, emergent patient requests, routine andnon-routine requests and OR procedures requiring radiographicsupport.
Demonstrates competency in thePACS process and Performs the daily PACS QA process andrequirements.
Communications with Nursing,Physicians, Patient Care Assistants, Laboratory staff, administrative staff,other diagnostic areas and departments to ensure that the patients receive theirdiagnostic procedures in a smooth, efficient and safe manner.
Performs portable examinationswhen applicable at the bedside to ensure patient safety as well as provideimmediate diagnostic testing when needed.
Assists with patient schedulingwhen required liaising with other departments as needed.
Ensures that patientorientation, patient preparation (including starting IV’s and drawing labs asnecessary), and patient teaching is provided prior, during and following thetest completion.
Reviews the physician order toverify the type of diagnostic exam requested and that the indication for theprocedure is consistent.
Completes exams in RIS systemfor accurate billing. Communicates when corrections are needed.
Provides specific diagnostictest information to the patient ensuring that the patient is aware of the testinvolvement.
Obtains assistance with anydiagnostic procedures which are not completed, or if there are any patient careissues.
