Position Summary

Performs a variety of routine tasks to support the delivery of safe, effective, cost-efficient patient care as delegated by the RN. They provide assistance in transporting, transferring and lifting. They perform cleaning Functions in patient care unit as delegated, and perform selected diagnostic tests.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Licensure

  • HighSchool Diploma/GED

  • BLSand ACLS are required

Experience

  • One(1) year direct patient care experience

Minimum Skills andAbilities

  • Goodwritten/oral communication skills

  • Completionof PCA II orientation/training

PositionResponsibilities

  1. Providesdirect patient care as delegated by RN staff

  2. Monitorsand records vital signs

  3. Assistsin providing personal hygiene and physical care needs

  4. Accuratelymeasures, records, and reports intake and output

  5. Obtainsand records daily weight

  6. Performsblood glucose testing using blood glucose meter

  7. Reportschanges in patient’s status promptly to RN

  8. Performsas patient care companion when needed

  9. Assistsin the admission, transfer and discharge process

  10. Performsunit housekeeping needs.

  11. Actsas a runner/transporter

  12. Actsas receptionist for unit; has limited use of the hospital informationsystems according to hospital policy dependent on the need of unit

  13. Checksand documents refrigerator temperatures as delegated, reporting variancesto appropriate personnel

  14. Updatesassigned bed status

  15. Answerscall lights and telephone

  16. Keepspatient environment clean, Performs comfort rounds, keeps hallways clearof obstruction, reports safety issues and broken equipment appropriately,and adheres to patient safety precautions

  17. Communicateswith patient’s family, physicians, and unit personnel and peers in anaccurate, courteous, and professional manner

  18. Performsphlebotomy and 12 lead EKGs as permitted on the assigned unit

  19. Removessaline locks
