Responsibilities

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:

Reports to the dietary supervisor and/or cook of the Dietary Department. Fills orders for food and supplies and performs preparation work for other areas of the Dietary Department in order to provide optimal food service to our customers. Assists cook as needed. Follows facility policy and procedure and the mission and philosophy of the facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organize and plans daily activities in order to complete the job in an efficient and effective manner.

  • Recognize and deal with priorities and completes all assigned duties prior to end of shift.

  • Meet all established time frames within the shift including start up times and break times.

  • Work ahead as necessary to accommodate the needs of the cook.

  • Perform all duties in an independent manner with little or no direct supervision.

  • Demonstrate the ability to handle increased workload during periods of heavy workloads.

  • Show a willingness to take on additional tasks or assignments, change the work schedule and/or put in additional time when requested by coming in on days off and putting in extra time beyond the hours of shift.

  • Understand the duties of other comparable positions in the department so that coverage can be maintained in emergency situations or to help out with unexpected department needs.

  • Recognize urgencies in co-workers workload and assists in completing their assignments where feasible and demonstrates a “needs no reminder” attitude after directions have been explained.

  • Plates prepared: salads/desserts for service to patients/residents.

  • All items are plated as close to serving times as possible.

  • Foods served are of optimal quality.

  • Proper handling and holding food is followed.

  • Stock employee/guest cafeteria in a timely manner ensuring accuracy of completion and according to sanitation guidelines.

  • Reset tray accurately in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Education: Ability to read and write, follow oral and written instructions and do simple mathematics.

Licensure: None

Experience: Experience preferred but not required.

Skills: Some food preparation knowledge.

Interpersonal Skills: Relates well with staff patients and visitors. Maintains confidentiality. Able to respond and perform effectively if an unforeseen immediate need arises within the department also in stressful situations.

Physical Effort: Physical Demand is medium.

Hours of Work: Variable work hours, rotation of shifts and weekends required.

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Other: Visual and hearing acuity are essential. Potential exposure to mechanical, chemical, electrical and infectious environmental hazards.

Pay Range

$12.76 - $17.07 /hour
