Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in the development of architectural and engineering standards for the CHI Enterprise Voice & Data Networks.

  • Responsible for leading network design, both project related and non project related, that identify, assess, and develop detailed requirements for upgrading existing enterprise networks as well as re-architecting network segments in order to facilitate new requirements, technologies and growth.

  • Provides technical expertise and Tier 3 escalation support to the organization to quickly solve complex problems .

  • Takes an active role in mentoring and educating junior staff, providing guidance and assistance to support problem resolution and project related assignments.

  • Evaluates new technologies, products and materials for potential use.

  • Drafts, submits for approval, and implements technical practices, policies and standards to establish proper methods and practices

  • Drafts bid specifications and requests for proposal, and evaluates vendor responses to establish contracts.

  • Directs projects assigned by management by planning course of action, material resources, and monitoring progress.

  • Develops long and short term plans for updating equipment, adding capabilities, and enhancing existing systems to provide enhanced information

  • Performs tier three diagnostics on incident, problems, and outages and serve as the subject matter expert during escalation of such events

  • Evaluate performance trends and perform analysis to determine the health and status of the overall network.

  • Provide advanced analysis of network traffic, providing expert guidance regarding traffic impact on application performance issues and on the Enterprise network. Utilize this analysis to develop plans to identify, eliminate and avoid future problems and improve performance.

  • Will require some on-call coverage responsibilities

Qualifications

Skills, Requirements, and Certifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related technical field required.

  • May substitute an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • CCNP or CCDP Certification or equivalent experience, CCIE a plus

  • 15 years experience supporting, designing & engineering both LAN and WAN environments in a multi-site network required

  • Expert in installing and maintaining Cisco routers and switches.

  • Expert knowledge of IP network design & routing architectures.

  • Strong application performance troubleshooting and analysis skills

  • Expert working knowledge in the operation of Ethernet LAN switching protocols & standards including VLANs, VLAN aggregation, Ether Channel, Spanning Tree & Rapid Spanning Tree, 802.1Q, 802.1e, & CAT 5 & fiber cable distribution systems.

  • Advanced knowledge of networking & routing protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP4, OSPF, RIP, IS-IS, MPLS, VPLS, RSVP, LDP, etc.

  • Expert knowledge QOS strategies including Classification, Congestion Management, Class-based queuing, Queue Management, Traffic Shaping and Policing Tools, WAN Optimization and Acceleration, Link Efficiency Mechanism, and differentiated services.

  • Expert understanding of network protocols and enterprise architecture related to packetized voice and video

  • Superior ability to troubleshoot and diagnose network connectivity issues, especially layers one, two and three.

  • Expert ability with protocol analysis and network monitoring.

  • Experience installing and maintaining firewalls, intrusion detection and other network security components and software

  • Expert knowledge of 802.11 wireless technologies including site surveys, layer 3 roaming, security and encryption mechanisms, enterprise architecture and management utilities.

  • Project leadership skills including work plan development and management, and accomplishing projects within budget
