Catholic Health Initiatives Med Technologist in Dickinson, North Dakota

Overview

CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson part of CommonSpirit Heath a national nonprofit health system based in Englewood Colorado. The faith-based system operates in 18 states and includes 103 hospitals. Additional services offered within the system are: long-term care assisted and residential living communities community health services organizations home health agencies and numerous outpatient facilities.

The Medical Technologist (MT), or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), under general supervision and direction,

perform clinical laboratory procedures. Performs high, moderate, and waived complexity procedures as defined by

the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988. Maintains working knowledge of theories involved in clinical

testing. With increasing experience, performs specialized tests requiring a high degree of expertise and may serve

in a team leader capacity as assigned.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintain departmental competencies as required including thorough departmental knowledge of the principles and practices of the clinical laboratory to include Microbiology, Hematology, Immunohematology, Urinalysis, and Chemistry. Performs laboratory tests on all scheduled benches as assigned according to current protocols, procedures, and quality assurance requirements. Maintains a high level of precision and accuracy for all testing. Reports problems that may adversely affect test performance or results. Reports critical values in a timely manner to appropriate personnel.

  2. Possess and maintain thorough knowledge of a clinical laboratory as it applies to collecting and processing specimens. Processes lab specimens, aliquot, store, and prepares samples for shipment as needed.

  3. Performs maintenance on equipment in a timely manner. Performs preventative maintenance protocols. Investigates and corrects equipment malfunctions. Documents appropriately.

  4. Performs quality control procedures, including instrument function checks and calibrations as needed. Monitors quality control results to assure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained. With appropriate experience, may review and maintain cumulative quality control data. Participates in laboratory quality assurance and quality assurance activities.

  5. Maintains at a minimum, the necessary continuing education hours as dictated by certification/licensure.

  6. Follows all laboratory procedures including safety guidelines, the use of personal protective equipment and awareness of blood-borne pathogens. Maintains a clean and safe work environment.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor degree with a major in medical technology or related science, including internship in an approved MT/MLS program or necessary experience as a registered Laboratory Technician with the qualifications to become a licensed as a MT by the state of Tennessee.

Required Licensure and Certifications

Licensed as a Medical Technologist by the Tennessee State

Board of Health OR Certified by ASCP or AMT as a MT/MLS.

Licensed or certified within 3 months of employment.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

Completion of internship through an accredited MT/MLS program.

Pay Range

$24.10 - $34.94 /hour
