Echo Coordinator - Cardiac Sonography



Assumes responsibility for maintaining high quality Cardiac Sonography services at Mercy Medical Center. Oversees general daily activities encouraging efficient work flow and cost effective services within the Cardiac Sonograpy Department. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to foster a positive culture within the echo lab.


  • Assumes situational responsibility, authority and accountability for the Cardiac Sonography department.

  • Provides care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

  • Develops and implements department objectives in collaboration with staff and leadership.

  • Counsels and monitors clinical performance of staff; assists in performance appraisals; promotes staff clinical development.

  • Works with manager to promote staff compliance of objectives and the implementation of procedures and policies.

  • Assists in conducting interviews for prospective employees; works with the Personnel Department in recruiting /hiring new personnel.

  • Monitors the physical environment of the departments in compliance with Joint Commission standards

  • Manages and coordinates the activities of the Cardiac Sonography with other areas of the department, hospitals and clinics to ensure and maintain patient care.

  • Responsible for the management of work assignments, schedules, and orientation of the technologists.

  • Participates in the purchase/maintenance of equipment and contracts/meetings with vendors

  • Keeps abreast of current trends, new equipment/procedures and informs Cardiac Sonography Manager and Clinical Director.

  • Maintains Quality Assurance in the Cardiac Sonography Department.

  • Works in collaboration with leadership to coordinate staffing, protocols, IAC accreditation and equipment management.



  • Successful completion of an accredited two-year Cardiac Sonography program.

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)

  • Maintains active registry status in with ARDMS

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.

  • Four years clinical Cardiac Sonography experience required

  • Leadership experience preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred at time of hire.
